Quilts

Grandma Bonnie

I’d like to introduce myself as an enthusiastic, learning quilter. I am the mother of Jennifer, Ingrid, Paul and Ben and call myself “mom” to Holly. My husband, Andy supports and encourages my hobby, even to the point, at times, of ripping out my mistakes. This website has been established as an outlet for ideas, communication with fellow quilters and perhaps as a marketing tool. It is fun to share successes as well as failures and I hope on occasion perhaps an original idea!

My memories of sewing go back to naps on a cot in my mother's sewing room (dining room). I remember the sound of the scissors, her portable Singer sewing machine and the sound of her voice telling me to close my eyes. Mom was my 4-H sewing teacher and taught by example – machine work as well as hand work was done carefully and with precision.

This small wall hanging was made around 2” fussy-cut blocks featuring pictures of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. It then used a ¾” frame around each different pose and set them in a square-in-square on point. The four center, alternating blocks contain a cowboy embroidery motiff. The edge of the quilt features an embroidered rope design. I used a tiny check for the backing. The quilt is hand embroidered and hand quilted and the binding is finished by hand.
