Quilts

Ingrid

Well, let's see—it all started innocently. About a year after I got married my husband, Mark, told me I needed a hobby. I had moved away from my family and had not made many friends yet; he was feeling a little smothered.

While I was growing up, my family gave a tied quilt to any friend that was having a baby. Usually it was one solid piece for the top and one for the back that were tied together. I started by making quilts like this for everyone I could. Then, before my second child was born, my mother introduced me to piecing. It was all downhill from there.

I do not think my husband was expecting my "hobby" to take over most of my time and money! I very soon got the "itch" to design quilts, and my husband, a fabulous artist and graphic designer, was soon recruited to help me. Together we have worked on several quilts and quilting designs. We spend more time together now working on "my hobby" than we spent together that first year of marriage.

Curved Geese

This quilt design was started at a workshop given by JoAnn Bellings. She gave a workshop on design with curved flying geese. The design is drawn free-hand and then the flying geese are paper-pieced. The curved piecing was done by machine. It is machine quilted.

Poppy

This quilt features needle-turn hand applique and beautiful machine quilting. The center poppies were curved pieced before being appliqued to the quilt. All design elements are original to this quilt. The hummingbird in the border brings movement to the quilt. The penny sized circles in the border are all hand appliqued. The fabrics in this quilt are from 3 generations. The backing is a green swirl - the same as the hand finished binding.

Hope

Going to Paducah 2007! This original quilt design was completed in September 2006. Our quilt guild was challenged to complete a quilt that we were struggling with. This is the first quilt that I pieced using 80% template pieces. The quilting design was also original and was designed specifically for this quilt. I spent 2-3 hours a day for at least a month quilting it. I used three different colors of quilting thread in order to accent each area. The binding is hand finished.

Meggan's Quilt

This quilt was made for a dear friend of mine who was expecting her first baby. We have worked together for the past 5 years and I was so excited about the news that I started planning the quilt as soon as she knew it was to be a girl. The colors in her nursery are pink and brown. This was a new color combination for me - what fun, there are so many wonderful fabrics to choose from. The flowers in the quilt center and the border were done with a blanket stich on the machine. The machine quilting was customized for this quilt.
